Turtle, a sacred figure in native symbolism representing Mother Earth as well as good health and long life.

The turtle is honored for saving mankind from the Great Flood. Stoically it carries the heavy burden of man on its shell. Many species of the turtle have 13 sections to their under-side believed to represent the cycle of the thirteen moons. The moons are a celestial symbol of motherhood.

Leroy Henry

Leroy Henry is a member of the Turtle Clan, Cayuga Nation, of the Six Nations Confederacy. 

Born in 1974, Leroy has enjoyed carving since
the age of ten. He is active in the traditional sports of lacrosse and snow-snake, but mostly enjoys sharing the traditional ways of his Elders through the tales
of his sculptures.

His large sculpture “Eagle Tree of Peace” in the
heart of Huron University's campus in London serves as a center-piece and symbolize reconciliation between his community and the Anglican Church.
