Collection: Cape Dorset Collection 2020

The West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative in Cape Dorset, known as Kinngait Studios, has produced renowned limited edition prints since 1959. The studio, Canada's longest-running print studio, releases annual collections and special commissions. Printmaking in Cape Dorset began in the late 1950s, spearheaded by James Houston, who introduced the technique after demonstrating printmaking principles using soot and an incised walrus tusk. The local carving stone proved ideal for relief printing, leading to the development of stone cuts, etchings, and lithographs, allowing diverse artistic expression.
