Jacob Irkok

Jacob Irkok (1937-2009) was a notable Inuit sculptor from Arviat, previously known as Eskimo Point, in the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut, Canada. His work stood out for its naturalistic and realistic depiction of subjects, a departure from the more abstract styles favored by many of his contemporaries in the region. Irkok's sculptures, especially his representations of caribou, were praised for their simplicity, grace, and beauty, often reflecting a deep connection to the animals and landscape of the Arctic.

Irkok's style gained significant recognition, particularly his depictions of swimming caribou, which showcased his ability to convey motion and life through minimalist, efficient lines.
