Pitseolak Niviaqsi

Pitseolak Niviaqsi (1913–1985) was a prominent Inuit artist from Nunavut, Canada. Growing up in a traditional Inuit lifestyle, her early experiences of hunting and gathering deeply influenced her art. Niviaqsi became known for her printmaking and drawing, which vividly depicted Inuit life, animals, and spiritual themes.

She was associated with the Cape Dorset Printmaking Studio, a key center for Inuit art, where she created works alongside other notable Inuit artists. Her distinctive style and portrayal of traditional scenes have earned her a significant place in Canadian art history.

Niviaqsi's artwork is celebrated for its cultural and artistic value, with pieces held in major institutions like the National Gallery of Canada. Despite her passing in 1985, her legacy endures through her influential and celebrated contributions to Inuit art.
