Qavavau Mangitak

Qavavau Manumie (also known as Kavavaow Mannomee) is a distinguished Inuit artist born in 1958 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. He was raised in Kinngait (formerly Cape Dorset), Nunavut, where he has become a prominent figure in the Inuit art community. His career began in the 1980s at the West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative, where he honed his skills in printmaking, particularly lithography and stonecut, and later expanded into drawing.

Manumie's work is known for its unique blend of humor and imagination, often depicting scenes from Inuit mythology, Arctic wildlife, and contemporary Inuit life. His art is characterized by intricate compositions and a distinctive style that combines both surreal and literal elements. A recurring theme in his work is the "Inuralaat" or "little people," drawn from stories told by his father during his childhood.

Over the years, Manumie's artwork has been showcased in numerous exhibitions across Canada and internationally, earning him critical acclaim. His works are held in several prestigious collections, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of History.
