Inuit mythology includes various supernatural beings, some of whom are depicted as spirit heads.
Inuit art often depicts spirit heads, sometimes representing supernatural beings or figures from Inuit mythology and shamanistic beliefs. These carvings can be of various forms, including heads with no bodies, creatures with mixed human and animal features, or shamanistic figures undergoing transformation. They are not always associated with negative entities; some represent helpful spirits or figures from the spirit world.

Attachie Peter

(1973-2009)
Attachie was born and raised in Cape Dorset, Nunavut Territory. Located on Dorset
Island at the southern tip of Baffin Island, Cape Dorset is the most well-known
art producing community in Canada’s arctic.
Attachie Peter was the adopted son of Cape Dorset carver Ejetsiaq Peter. Like many Inuit carvers, Attachie learned the art of carving by watching and studying his father and his brother Kooyoo Peter, well established carver.
“ I try to make my carvings unique, not like anyone else’s so the seller and buyer can see how much work I put into my carvings”
His artistic career includes creating pieces that often reflect his cultural heritage and personal experiences. Although detailed biographical information about him is limited, he is noted for his active involvement in the art scene and his contributions to contemporary sculpture. His sculptures are known for their intricate and modern designs and cultural significance.
