Kenojuak Ashevak was a prominent Inuit artist known for her pioneering contributions to Inuit printmaking and drawing. Born in the remote Arctic region of Baffin Island, Ashevak's early life was deeply connected to the traditional Inuit way of life, including hunting and sewing. Her artistic career began in the 1950s when she became involved with the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, which played a crucial role in the development of Inuit art.

Her art often features themes of animals, spirits, and the Arctic landscape, presented through bold lines and rich colors. One of her most famous works, “The Enchanted Owl” (1960), has become an iconic representation of Inuit art.
Throughout her career, Ashevak received numerous accolades for her work, including being named a Member of the Order of Canada in 1967. Her art has been exhibited widely across Canada and internationally, contributing to a broader appreciation of Inuit culture and artistic traditions.
