Ooloosie Saila

Ooloosie Saila is an emerging Inuit artist from Cape Dorset, Nunavut, known for her vibrant and intricate drawings that reflect the rich culture and environment of her community. Born in 1991, she belongs to a family with a strong artistic legacy; her grandmother, Pitseolak Ashoona, was a renowned artist, and her great-grandfather, Pitseolak Ashoona, was a prominent printmaker.

Saila began drawing as a child, influenced by the artistic environment around her, but it wasn’t until 2015 that she began seriously pursuing her art. Her works often depict scenes of Arctic wildlife, traditional Inuit life, and the northern landscapes, all rendered in her distinctive style characterized by bright colors, dynamic compositions, and a sense of movement.

Ooloosie Saila's art has gained recognition both in Canada and internationally. She is part of a new generation of Inuit artists who are expanding the boundaries of traditional Inuit art, bringing contemporary sensibilities to the portrayal of their culture. Her work has been featured in several exhibitions, and she is regarded as a rising star in the Inuit art scene.
